How it works
The first rate applies up to the threshold and the second rate only to sales above it. This form solves for total commission (same currency); enter the known quantities in Sales subject to commission (same currency), First-tier sales threshold (same currency), First-tier rate, Upper-tier rate.
Inputs and units
| Input | Example value | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
| Sales subject to commission (same currency) | 20,000 | Formula symbol: sales. Enter a numeric value. Must be greater than zero. |
| First-tier sales threshold (same currency) | 10,000 | Formula symbol: threshold. Enter a numeric value. Must be greater than zero. |
| First-tier rate | 3 % | Formula symbol: first. Enter the percentage as a number: for 15%, enter 15. Use a non-negative value. Allowed range: 0–100. |
| Upper-tier rate | 5 % | Formula symbol: second. Enter the percentage as a number: for 15%, enter 15. Use a non-negative value. Allowed range: 0–100. |

Show example inputs and results
This example is generated by the same calculation engine using the starting values in the form. Your own inputs produce your own result.
- Sales subject to commission (same currency)
- 20,000
- First-tier sales threshold (same currency)
- 10,000
- First-tier rate
- 3 %
- Upper-tier rate
- 5 %
Complete example results
- Total commission (same currency)
- 800
Reading the result
The result solves for total commission (same currency) from the entered quantities. Check the result unit and the formula conditions before using it.
Questions and answers
Can I use the example values for my own calculation?
The example values illustrate the calculation. Replace every input with your own information, especially dates, rates and the selected operation.
When can I use the total commission (same currency) result?
There are only two marginal tiers; the higher rate is not applied to all sales. Solving the upper rate requires sales above the threshold. All monetary inputs must use the same currency; currency conversion, tax and automatic fees are excluded.
Why are some results rounded?
Results display up to 8 decimal places. Calculations use the unrounded values; very small values use scientific notation. JavaScript floating-point arithmetic can introduce tiny rounding differences.
Are my inputs sent to a server?
The calculator processes inputs in your browser. Its code does not send your values to a server.
